W.O.D Friday 7/30/10
Since beginning our journey a little over 2 years ago, CrossFit Springfield has been extremely fortunate to have so many exceptional people join our coaching team. On a daily basis, each of our coaches demonstrate not only a knowledge of human performance, but also a willingness and ability to encourage, engage, and motivate everyone who walks through our doors. It takes a special breed. To that end, CrossFit Springfield is pleased to announce an addition to our “pack” of coaches: Mary Rogers. Those of you who know Mary, know that her outgoing personality, positive outlook on life, and heart for helping others make her a perfect fit for our team! Mary will begin gradually working towards coaching CFS group WODs next week. We’re pumped to have you onboard, Mary! 3..2..1..GO!!!
“I’m originally from Fort Worth, Texas, but I’ve been here in the Springfield area for about 14 years. I now live on a farm in Willard with my husband/best friend/favorite person ever, Patrick, and our three dog children. I don’t have a particularly strong athletic background; I played volleyball and softball in high school, but I didn’t start working out seriously until my junior year at Drury. I became a pretty serious (though slow) runner about three years after I graduated from college; I ran a few races over the span of a couple years before burning out and slowing way down. It was right about that time that I was introduced to Crossfit. I fell in love after the first WOD, and it’s been nothing short of life-changing.
I am a huge, huge believer in whole body health – water, clean, natural foods, and above all allowing the body to do what it was built to do: work. It’s a beautiful, amazing thing to see the energy that’s expended at Crossfit Springfield every day – people pushing themselves to their own personal limits and then going beyond that to set new goals that they’ll exceed the next day. There is so much that’s personally rewarding about Crossfit, but the number one thing for me is watching each personal triumph – seeing someone do what they really thought they couldn’t. I feel so lucky and blessed to be able to come to Crossfit Springfield every day and spend time with so many truly incredible people.”

Congrats, Mary! Did a modified version of today’s WOD…skipped the double unders and did wall balls w/o the burpees. Felt good to work out with the group. Paul, we missed you and your disco style but Karen did a good job getting in the groove.
Only 10 days until this baby should be here!

I’ve come to the conclusion that it would be damn near impossible to find a gathering of better people than the Crossfit Springfield crew, coaches and members alike. Thank you so much for your congratulations and encouragement – it means more than you know. This is such an honor and the greatest opportunity for me, and I’m so looking forward to starting this journey. Love you guys.

Miss Mary – you will be a fantastic addition to the coaching team at CF! Can’t wait to take some classes with you!

Congrats Mimi! I love you! I can’t wait to be in one of your classes. I also can’t wait for the day when I’m in a WOD led by two badassmofo White sisters — Philippians 4:13.

Why we gotta be white? Kidding. Congrats, Mimi! You’ll be great.
Wiener day. Total wiener day for me. 38 minutes Rx’d. Just couldn’t get in the groove, although it did help to have Kristy’s sweet disco dance moves in front of me!
Great 9 am group!

Yo Mary! Congrats. As a trainer you now get to wear spandex as much and as often as you’d want, like you were asking me about.
Wanted to also throw a shout out to all the rowers this morn. Got to fill in for Cindi, and a made a workout called “No Fun Friday… Seriously” , and it wasn’t fun, yet everyone did great! I jacked up my shoulder, so will be chillin the next few days. Everyone have a great weekend!

21:46rx, lost about 30-60 seconds looking for 20lb ball. Then those damn wb burpees took a while! Always chasing ollis… Everyone was clearly giving their all at noon today, great class!

26:53 RX
Posted on July 30th, 2010 at 12:24 pm
I got my first CTB pull up today before the wod. And then proceeded to power through 30 of them while I discoed today!! So…45:07 Rx’d. Thanks, Mary and Justin for the push. What an awesome nooner. Oh, and Chance, I agree. Those wallballburpees were pure hell.
Posted on July 30th, 2010 at 1:14 pm
Although this took me forever, I am really happy. Today, I did all 70 DU’s, all 60 35lb KB snatches, and (this was big for me) the 85lb clean and jerks. So it was all Rx except just regular kipping pullups! Yay! Thanks Justin for all of your help and patience while I “chipped away” at it.

Really wish I could have done FGB with my hubby and Justin today, however, work kicked my can to the curb last night!! Will probably do the “Disco” later, but my hands are officially SCARED of pull-ups!!!! Will tape them again and if anyone has any taping tips or just want to do it for me, I would greatly appreciate it!!! Still haven’t made it to buy gloves yet.
Congratulations Mary!!!! Can’t wait to have you yelling at me with your “Trainer” voice!!!

Macy, dude, that was our secret. Not cool. I promise I won’t tell anyone about your private collection of Hammer pants and how badly you want to wear the zebra ones with a wifebeater to the box. Won’t say a word.
I will say that this wod was brutal. And I cannot remember my time – either 28:38 or 29:38, not rx because of the darned ctb pullups. I’m going to take some notes from Amber on those.
Thanks to Jake and Jessi for the clean and jerk tips today – and well done to the nooners today. Everyone seriously put it all out there for this one.
Posted on July 30th, 2010 at 2:40 pm
21:02 rx except did cleans with no jerks and Ollis wanted me to acknowledge that i did step-ups on the box jumps (although they were allowed). Still trying to nurture my poor little back. But thanks Ollis, I appreciate the accountability.

Molly, Thank you. I thought I had read somewhere in the Bible about badassmofo White girls, but I couldn’t for the life of me remember where I had read it. And, low and behold, right there in Philippians it is. Mary, congrats. You are one of my many heros at the gym. I am so excited for you. Crossfit continues to add the “best of the best” to their awesome staff of trainers.
Posted on July 30th, 2010 at 3:15 pm
Yeah Mary! You are indeed a badass and you are going to make an excellent coach! Congratulations!

Congrats MARY! You will do great encouraging et guiding these athletes. You display an attitude of not being afraid to get uncomfortable and pushing beyond when the mind tells you “STOP” Can’t wait to guide next to You and encourage these CF Athletes.

Christine from the beginner’s class here….Last day of our class and I just wanted to take a second to say a HUGE thank you to Jessi. A month ago, if someone would have told me the things I would be doing now, I would have laughed at them…and then would have stopped to catch my breath.
Jessi, your very presence motivates me and I’m going to miss the hell out of having you all to myself.
Kind of let myself down today on my performance but now I know, coffee is whack and say yes to water…:D I am completely excited/terrified to join the regular WODs! See you guys next week!
