CFS Ribbon Cutting Press Release

The Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors will conduct a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4pm on Friday, November 13th for the grand opening of CrossFit Springfield’s new location at 1900 W. Sunset and Kansas Expressway.  Directly following the ribbon cutting ceremony, CrossFit Springfield will be hosting an area Firefighters Challenge to benefit the Grant Wistrom Family Foundation.  Food and beverages will be available.

CrossFit Springfield was founded in November 2007 by Jessi Grove and Jeremy Mhire, ATC.  Ownership has recently been extended to include Grant and Melissa Wistrom.  The Wistrom’s, both CrossFit Level 1 Instructors, will bring an incredible amount of athletic knowledge and passion for fitness/wellness to CFS.

“CrossFit is something that we believe in so passionately that my wife and I have recently chosen to invest in CrossFit Springfield and become co-owners with Jessi and Jeremy”, said Grant Wistrom.

2009 CFS FireFighter Challenge Update!!!

      My name is Justin Jones, I am 29 years old.  I am a Captain at Logan Rogersville Fire Protection District.  I’ve been in the Fire Service for 5 years now.  I have 2 daughters…Kylie who is 6 and Kayden who is 3.  I am getting married December 19 of this year.  My fiance and kids are what keep me going everyday.  I’ve been hard into working out for about 5 years now but just latched on to Crossfit…and I’ll never do anything else!!  I live everyday by this motto…Life is too short to be dull and boring…treat everyday like it is your last!!!

Friday, November 13th. 6pm. The 2009 CFS Firefighter Challenge benefitting the Grant Wistrom Foundation for kids with cancer. Be there to support our local firefighters as they join in on the fight against cancer!!!

2009 CFS FireFighter Challenge Update!!!

Meet “Team Inferno” from Logan-Rogersville:

     My name is Jacob Garrett. I have been with Logan-Rogersville Fire Protection District since last march serving as a volunteer firefighter pursuing a full-time position. I was invited to be on one of the firefighter crossfit teams and chose to do so to represent our district and for the cause. We will be raising money for the Grant Wistrom Foundation for Kids with Cancer. I love being around kids, hanging out with them, helping them in anyway I can. I believe in second chances, especially for children, and this is one way I can help.

     My name is Zachary (Zac) Ryan Grace; I am 20 years old and a firefighter with Logan-Rogersville Fire Prot. Dist. I have been a career firefighter for about 7 months now. This is the greatest profession in the world. I would not change it for anything! When I heard that this challenge was to help the Grant Wistrom Family Foundation for kids with cancer I was all over it! There is nothing better than helping out kids!

Lieutenant Steve Smith is a real American hero. When the last chance qualifiers were announced, Smith, a platoon leader in the 82nd Airborn Division of the United States Army, was deployed in Iraq. He jumped at the chance to represent our boys overseas and to honor the men who will not be coming home. In the last chance, he posted excellent times for all three events: 4:06 for the Deadlift/Double Unders, 4:45 for Jackie, and 11:34 for the “10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1″ WOD.

              The first day of the 09 CrossFit Games tested athletes’ physical and mental boundaries to an unprecedented degree. After four events, twenty men and twenty women had already been eliminated.

Now, “in one 20 minute event, 39 people are gonna be eliminated,” reiterated Dave Castro, Director of the CrossFit Games.Carey Kepler had the best time for women at 11:01. Jason Khalipa had the best time for men at 11:18.

The final event was a CrossFit couplet. Tough under any circumstances, brutal as the fifth workout of the day, and crucial for staying alive in the competition. Thirteen men and fifteen women would not finish within the allotted time.

Jim Nivens, a firefighter from Branson who’ll be competing in the Firefighter’s Challenge benefitting the Grant Wistrom Foundation on Friday, Nov. 13th, is also a former strongman competitor.  The above picture of him pulling 475lb is evidence of his experience in picking up heavy objects.
